Scaredy Cat

Scaredy Cat is a 32-page comic from Cat Gordon, about self-doubt, queer identity/acceptance, and learning to love and live out loud! Developed and drawn over Autumn 2025 as part of her residency at Out of the Blueprint.

“…Scaredy Cat has been a five month long exploration into queer comic creation that focuses on embracing fear and uncertainty. Constructing then deconstructing auto–biographical narratives about my experience with sexuality.

My identity is something that I have struggled to pin down, I always felt like I needed to be the most perfect happy lesbian in order to prove to the world that it was alright to be different. Growing up in a strict religious school I never quite managed to grasp the idea of queer joy, maybe because I needed some queer forgiveness, queer closure first. This residency has given me the space to create something of pure self expression in order to try and be brave and embrace the imperfection.”
